Initial situation
flexis AG is a provider of solutions for flexible information systems for supply chain management and, in particular, a provider of a system for production program planning. During the implementation of planning, disruptions occur time and again, e.g. machine malfunctions, delivery bottlenecks or delays in order processing. These disruptions can be countered by measures such as the allocation of alternative machines, postponement of orders or shift extensions, which minimize the effects. Existing planners usually have to be comprehensively trained and experience built up during operation. Future planners should be supported by an AI assistance system.
Procedure
The first step was to get to know the company and identify the general problems, potential and issues relating to AI applications in the area of production program planning. In a training course, flexis employees with different professional backgrounds were taught the basics of AI as well as details and possible applications of AI processes / algorithms. The main aim was to deepen knowledge of AI, qualify employees for use case identification (mobilization) and enable a good start to implementation.
Result
As part of the project, use case ideas were developed that will be further investigated in the company and possibly implemented in the software in the future.
